2. Johnson & Johnson 7 Minute Workout

The Johnson & Johnson 7 Minute Workout app comes from consumer goods giant Johnson & Johnson. The app comes with 72 exercises and 22 additional workouts you can customize to fit into your fitness needs and your schedule. 

You can use their current 7-minute workout or you can make your own, and you can even include music! The app also has a “Smart Workout” feature that gauges your fitness and motivation level and recommends intensity level increases.

3. AllTrails

AllTrails is a unique fitness app to connect you with nature. The app shares over 100,000 hand-curated maps of hiking, biking and walking trails. 

You can search trails by name, city or more. Other free features include customized lists and activity recordings. Also, you can read other app users’ reviews and condition updates. Or you can leave your own, including photos.

4. Daily Workouts Fitness Trainer

The Daily Workouts Fitness Trainer app touts itself as “your own personal trainer wherever you are.”. The app features hundreds of HD video workouts that vary from full-body workouts to target area workouts. 

You can find workouts targeted to your abs, arms and more that range from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. Reviewers say it’s easy to follow and great for beginners too. 

There’s a Pro version of the Daily Workouts app, as well, that sells for $19.99. The Pro version includes more workouts as well as customizable workouts.

The JEFIT workout app focuses on three key helpful fitness features:

Map My Fitness is a free app by Under Armour that is great for beginners or those looking to go on a long fitness journey. The app records every activity you do, the calories burned while doing it and more. 

And it’s compatible with devices such as FitBit too. The Map My Fitness app also has upgraded MVP subscriptions that you can purchase. The MVP subscriptions will let you track heart rate and other important health stats.

The basic app is free, but also note that the MVP upgrade costs $5.99 or more, depending on which features you choose.

7. Nike Training Club App

The Nike Training Club app comes with over one hundred free workouts. Available workouts range in time and fitness focus, including everything from yoga to high-intensity interval training. 

The classes are studio-style and they’re designed with a variety of equipment needs, health levels and time availability. 

If you want to upgrade to the Premium version of the app, you’ll get access to hundreds of more workouts and you’ll be able to browse health and nutrition articles and information as well. 

The Premium membership for the Nike Training Club app is $14.99 per year or $119.99 if you pay annually.

8. Adidas Training by Runtastic

Contrary to the name, the Adidas Runtastic app isn’t just for runners. This full-fledged fitness app features over 30 different workouts. 

The workouts accommodate a variety of fitness levels and workout times and gives you access to training plans as well. 

You can upgrade to the Premium membership for $9.99 per month or $49.99 per year if paid annually. With the Premium membership, you’ll get access to more workouts, training challenges, and more.

9. Map My Run

Map My Run is another Under Armour workout app; however, this one focuses solely on running. With this app, you can track your runs and view your progress. It also has a feature that allows you to create challenges with other runners. 

The app will help you track pace, distance, duration and more. And it works with fitness watches such as Samsung Gear, Apple Watch and Fitbit. 

If you want to upgrade to the MVP plan, you’ll get additional features such as audio coaching, training plans and more. The MVP upgrade costs $5.99 per month or $29.99 per year.

10. Zombies, Run!

The Zombies, Run! app is a running app with a twist, and it is a scary one!

As you wear your headphones, you’ll hear music and your mission instructions. If you suddenly start being chased by zombies, you’ll have to speed up (you can totally turn this option off- It's definitely not conducive to running in a downtown area with traffic lights). When you follow instructions, you’ll collect supplies to build your base. There are varying runs for the different fitness levels, and you can choose from over 200 missions. The story is really good, and you'll love the updates you'll get throughout your run! 

For additional missions and fitness games, upgrade to join the Abel’s Runner’s Club. This upgraded membership costs $5.99 per month or more depending on which features you purchase.

12. C25K 5K Trainer

The C25K 5K Trainer app is a free running app geared toward new runners. The website says the app will take you from couch potato to 5K runner in just eight weeks. 

The workouts are 30 to 40 minutes long and start with walking and intermittent running to help you build up strength. You’ll run three times a week, and each workout includes a 5-minute warmup and 5-minute cooldown.

Once you’re well trained in the 5K app, you can move on to other C25K apps. Note that there may be costs for upgraded apps and features. 

If you’re new to running, this is the perfect running app for you to get you started!

13. Nike Run Club

The Nike Run Club app will help you track vital information: pace, distance, elevation, heart rate and more. You can even track the miles you put on each pair of your running shoes. 

And you can create a coaching plan that will help you reach all of your running goals. Also, you can compare and compete against other app users to gauge your progress. 

Other features include in-run cheers from friends, encouragement from professional athletes and music playlists. The Nike Run Club app is free and doesn’t offer any paid upgrades at this time.

14. Strava Run App

The Strava running app calls itself the social network for athletes. Runners can record and track all of the usual information: distance, pace, elevation, heart rate, etc. 

The app works with popular GPS watches and head units as well. Besides, you can record your activity and results and share them on the Strava feed. 

Other users record on the feed too. They can share encouragement and kudos with each other, which is great for motivation. You can also attach photos to share on the feed. 

In-app upgrades are available for purchase as well. The app works great for cyclists too.

15. Yoga for Beginners

Well, the name pretty much says it all; this app is useful for those looking to start getting into yoga. Or for those who have gotten away from yoga over some time and want to re-start slowly. 

The app offers several features, such as:

The 5 Minute Yoga app shares, obviously, 5-minute yoga workouts. This can be great for the busy person that wants to be able to get in short yoga workouts when possible. 

The app says that sessions are created from a selection of poses that are effective yet simple. And while the poses can work well for experienced yoga enthusiasts, they still work wonders for beginners. 

Workouts help with flexibility, strength training, toning and relaxation. The short time limit means they won’t be overwhelming to learn. And there’s a timer included on the app to ensure you stay on schedule. In-app upgrades are available.

17. Daily Yoga

Daily Yoga offers a small sample of free yoga workouts to all users. The choices contain six programs and 13 sessions. Included are a variety of fitness levels to the free selection of classes and sessions. 

If you want to take advantage of the in-app purchases (in a range of price points), you’ll get access to over 100 different programs and meditations. 

The app includes beginner tutorials for those just getting started as well.

18. Workout Trainer By Skimble

Workout Trainer by Skimble is a comprehensive fitness app that's got it all. Literally imagine any kind of workout you want to do, and the Workout Trainer by Skimble app will have it. The app allows you to create your own workouts or utilize other users' workouts. Workout Trainer is packed with thousands of workouts & custom training programs led by expert certified coaches. They specialize in bodyweight-only high intensity workouts, quick strength building routines, energizing yoga practices, and brutal fitness challenges. There is a paid version of this app, but it's only $6.99 a month to access every program. You can also buy most individual programs for a $9.99 one time fee.
