T. Ryan Pflugner, M.D.

Dr. Pflugner is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon that specializes in joint reconstruction, sports medicine, and general orthopedics.

A native of Sarasota, Florida, Dr. Pflugner attended the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham. Following medical school, he completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Universtiy of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at Taos Orthopedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico.

Dr. Pflugner kicked for the University of Alabama where he helped the Crimson Tide win an SEC Championship. During this time, he sustained an athletic injury that required surgery. His preparation for his procedure, the operation, and his recovery sparked his interest in orthopedics, adult reconstruction and sports medicine in particular. His personal experience as a patient has played a major role in his career as a surgeon. Dr. Pflugner joined the Medical Center Barbour family in 2020 and provides care for patients through our MCB Specialty Clinic.

In addition to fracture care, Dr. Pflugner performs total and partial knee replacement, anterior and posterior approach hip replacement, and his certified in robotic-arm assisted hip and partial knee replacement. He specializes in ligament reconstruction of the knee (ACL, MCL, PCL and posterolateral corner), arthroscopic and open shoulder stabilization, rotator cuff repair, and total shoulder replacement. He also performs cartilage restoration procedures of the knee (OATS, microfracture, ACI) and orthobiologic procedures (stem cell, PRP).

In his time away from work, Dr. Pflugner enjoys spending time with his wife, Kristin, and two children, Isla and Jace. Dr. Pflugner enjoys fly fishing, bow hunting, and traveling.
