THE COVID-19 VACCINE

 

WHO CAN GET A COVID-19 VACCINE?

At this time, COVID-19 vaccines are available to patients who meet certain criteria. However, more people will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine every week, so check back here often for more information as it becomes available.

Right now, Medical Center Barbour is in Phase 1a of the vaccination process, and has already begun vaccinating the Very High Risk and High Risk populations. Vaccinations on the Medium Risk populations will begin on Monday, January 11th, 2021.

 

The Phase 1a Medium Risk population includes:

  • Persons working in critical healthcare services who have direct contact with the general public, such as pharmacists.

  • Others with outpatient exposure risks such as non‐hospital based physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, laboratorians, other providers and ancillary support staff in additional settings private offices, Federally Qualified Health Centers, County Health Departments, subspecialties, mental health and treatment centers

Phase 1b will begin on January 18th, 2021. 

Phase 1b population group includes:
•    Persons age 75 years or older
•    First responders including firefighters and law enforcement
•    Frontline essential workers (corrections officers, Food and agriculture workers, U.S. Postal Service workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers, public transit workers, and those who work in the education sector (teachers, support staff members) as well as child care workers 
•    Working or living in congregate settings including but not limited to homeless shelters, group homes, prisons, or jails.

Medical Center Barbour will be releasing more information on the vaccination process as it is made available by the Alabama Department of Public Health.

HOW DO I GET SCHEDULED FOR THE COVID-19 VACCINATION IF I MEET THE CRITERIA?

Easy! Our friendly Central Scheduling Department will personally secure your appointment time. Simply give them a call at 334-688-7002 or 334-688-7007 to schedule your appointment. Remember, you must be eligible for Phase 1a or 1b  to make an appointment at this time. 

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME TO MY APPOINTMENT?

When you arrive at your appointment, you will need a copy of your license and your  insurance card.

WHERE DO I NEED TO GO TO GET MY COVID-19 VACCINATION?

When you arrive for your COVID-19 vaccination appointment, please go straight to our Cafeteria Classroom's outdoor entrance, located to the left of our front lobby entrance.
